FAQ

What is Career Coaching?
Career coaching is a collaborative process. We work together to identify you career goals and create a career plan to get you where you really want to go. Allan uses a method that is designed to accelerate the process. You will hone in on what is most important to you and what is holding you back, so you can get unstuck and achieve your dreams faster.

Who Needs A Coach?
Career Coaching isn’t really about need, it is for people that want it, and are willing to commit to it. Consider Tiger Woods, or Michael Phelps, two of the most gifted athletes ever. They continue to work with coaches not because they need a coach, they work with coaches to bring out their best. Unlike sports coaches, career coaches, are your partners. We collaborate with you to create the positive change and make important decisions so you can achieve your goals faster.

These are some typical career coaching client situations:

People who want to find work they love.
Professionals who have achieved success and want to transition to a new career.
Executives who want to advance to the next level in their career.
Entrepreneurs that want to start or grow a business.
    Anyone who has professional roadblocks.
Job seekers who want to excel throughout the search and interview process.

What specifically happens in career coaching?
Coaching is about creating permanent change so that you can be empowered in your career and life. We look at your big picture ambitions and work on the immediate goals that will get you there. I’ll provide guidance when you need it and help you get focused and unstuck when you hit roadblocks.

The sessions will consist of a combination of assessment, evaluation, goal-setting, decision-making, strategy development, feedback, training, practicing, and much more.

What are the benefits of career coaching?
At first I was going to create a list based on some books and other literature, things I have heard. Then I decided to ask my clients. Here are some of their responses:

Clarity on your current work situation.
A new expanded vision of what is possible for your professional and personal life.
The confidence, inspiration, and energy to go out and live your dreams.
    Peace of mind.
Greater awareness and understanding of your own gifts and their value.
    Living to your full-potential.
    Take responsibility for your career.
Make more informed and better decisions.
    Motivation and momentum.
Get out of your own way.
    Catalyzes you into action.
The lessons, ideas and skills for your job growth and happiness.
Communicate clearer and more assertively at work.
A new positive outlook and energized to move forward.

Do I have to live in/near New York City?
No! I see clients in-person and via telephone. I have clients throughout the U.S. and can even work with clients from other countries.

How long can I expect to work with a career coach?
The length of the engagement depends on the client and their situation. While coaching can help with an urgent situation, it is really about creating permanent change. Expect to work for a minimum of 3-6 months, although many clients choose to stay on longer.

Sessions are 50 minutes long, and most clients come three times per month.

Can I afford coaching?
That is up to you. I believe one should look at coaching as an investment in themselves and their future. You need to balance this with your financial resources and commitments. If paying for coaching becomes a source of financial stress, or a distraction, now might not be the best time for you to hire a coach.
